Opening Reception: Saturday, May 19th, 6 - 8 pm
The coming of spring stirs desire.
Satisfying desire is the pursuit of pleasure.
In pleasure, ecstasy occurs; beyond ecstasy – exaltation.
Pain is considered, as is sacrifice.
Solace is found in the unknown.

PHOEBE COLLINGS-JAMES (b.1987, London) is the 4th artist to participate in the Still House residency program.

Blind Barber LA OPENS!

May 17, 2012 – Gentlemen and Ladies of the West Coast, get ready to meet Blind Barber. When the barbershop/speakeasy mash-up opens its doors at 10797 Washington Boulevard, Culver City in May 2012, clients can expect the same barbershop service, charm and spirits that Blind Barber New York is known for, except the bench with a Tompkins Square Park view now has an ocean breeze and a little more sun. Jeff Laub, Josh Boyd and Adam Kirsch, the co-owners of Blind Barber, chose Culver City for its combination of smalltown charm and urban feel.

"We're so excited to establish ourselves in the Culver City community and bring our concept to the West Coast. By offering our experience, be it, grooming, cocktails, or culinary, the area will hopefully welcome us in and we will find our second home," said Josh Boyd.

Working with Emporium Designs, led by Robert Stansell and Tim Welsh, Blind Barber's team created a spacious, minimal look for the front barbershop where cuts, shaves and conversation can take center stage. Four 4-foot windows open up to the recessed storefront patio allowing for the perfect temperature and vibe. "With Blind Barber's LA location, we've been able to refine our barbershop design by opening it up and creating a larger space where we can continue to foster our shop as a place where creatives come together to inspire as well as be inspired," said Jeff Laub.

Peaking around the corner of an artichoke green wall is Blind Barber's back parlor, hidden (in typical speakeasy fashion) behind a door to the towel closet. Mustard yellow-colored wallpaper littered with miniature maroon roses covers the walls, purposely weathered by local artists Jeremy Crabtree and Mikhail Pecherkin of Atlant Painted Finishes. The bar is topped with patented brass and a dusty haze covers the back bar's mirror giving patrons the feeling of being transported back in time.

Bar Maven Matt Pilieci helped design ten handcrafted cocktails, five house and five seasonal, which highlight the fresh ingredients and produce California has to offer.

“It’s nice to be able to get creative with new ingredients yet still be able to bring our distinct and lighthearted take on the classic cocktail game,” said Adam Kirsch. As always, a complimentary cocktail is offered with every Blind Barber service, but you don’t need an appointment to swing by, meet up with friends and enjoy a drink or meal in the back. A menu of edibles will be offered and prepared by Chef Ted Hirsch of Cynthia’s and includes gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, salads and soups.

Blind Barber LA is located at 10797 Washington Blvd. in Culver City, CA. Opening night is Thursday, May 17th, 2012 at 8pm. RSVP suggested: Josh@blindbarber.com

Despite the throwback ambiance of Blind Barber, the brand is firmly rooted in today with an eye out for what’s coming next. The concept goes well beyond cuts, shaves and cocktails within a barbershop and speakeasy, but expands into all realms of the modern gentleman that includes Fashion, Music, Lifestyle and Grooming. Stay Handsome.
