This Fall I went to Seattle with Vanessa. It's a strange place. They had an amazing vintage store the size of a mall. I got a suitcase from the 50s and about a dozen matchbooks. At the airport I had to rip out all the actual matches, but was able to keep the matchbooks. I love the designs and colors. Check them out.

A few years ago we had a show on Manhattan's public access channel MNN called LOLA Sports Talk. Created and run by Alex Young it aired every other week and featured a mix of sports interviews, skits, dogs, Owen, Howie McDuffie, Animal Thug from N.O.R.E., bad drawings, and personal jokes. It was too good to last.

LOLA Boys & Girls Club

Last weekend we had a throw-down at the Gallery with Don Clothing, Reason, CreateBuildDestroy, Lindsey Thornburg, Veda, and a few other select brands. The local boys and girls came out strong. Soon thereafter, all of Jobs Lane was covered in LOLA chalk drawings, balloons, and LOLA stamps.

Check out the website for the new book "The Summertime Sound" by Matthew Specktor, which was released yesterday. I read an excerpt of the new novel online and decided to check out the site. Most websites designed exclusively for marketing a book are lacking. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the packaging of "The Summertime Sound"  website.

Last night at the Rivington Hotel's 3-level Penthouse, hundreds braved a heavy drizzle to ring in Sean Kinney & Isaac Brest's birthday's. This June 2nd will be the second annual Gordon Parks Foundation upcoming Gala - Celebrating Fashion. The event will be honoring Bruce Weber and Russell Simmons as well as Liya Kebede and Isabel Toledo.  Andre Leon Talley will act as MC of the night, with Anna Wintour giving out the awards.  Rufus Wainwright is scheduled to perform before the auction which includes works by: Helmut Newton, Annie Leibowitz and Herb Ritts. 

LOLA at the DOE DJ Event: May 14th

LOLA is proud to be a part of an exciting event next week. On Thursday May 14th at The Angel Orensanz Foundation located at 172 Norfolk Street, New York. We will be playing music all night along with Q-Tip, Gemma Ward, and a stellar list of personalities. The photographs and writings from "Faces" are based upon our time in Rincon, Puerto Rico and some of the people we saw. Most of the time was spent walking quietly, listenin,g but we did run into some friends from New York and some of my dad's older friends.

Nite / Ocean. Puerto Rico Photo Project Part 1

Vanessa and I went to Puerto Rico earlier this month. I put together two old Pentax 35mm cameras, and we bought film at an old church in the town. The film wouldn't properly load, were all rolls of 12, and was over 3years expired.

Despite that, or maybe because of those facts, the photos came out amazing. Vanessa wrote some accompanying text on an old typewriter.

This is the first of three series of images and text from the trip. Next Monday will be the second.

I got some photos. The Roc4life.com launch party was this week at Greenhouse. The place was mobbed. They had the website playing repeatedly throughout the whole venue. Was a proud moment. We then went to the former Hangar bar which is weirdly redone... has anyone seen it? Next was Jonny Famous at Above Allen. There are also some photos of the NYC Skyline at night in Midtown Manhattan, The Office, plus a video at the Roc launch. Jiggga.

LA LA Big City of Dreams

Recently, I spent just over a week in Los Angeles. Having only been to LA when I was two, this was for all intensive purposes, my first trip to the City of Angels. Although it rained almost half the trip, which I believe is pretty rare for late February, I was lucky enough to see a great amount of the city in a short period of time. From the Hollywood Hills, Beverly, and Wilshire, to Venice, Santa Monica, Silverlake, Echo Park, the Valley and East LA - I got a glimpse into the city's unique way of life.

Downtown STATionary Card Background - "Baby Party"

Most of the illustrations for Downtown STATionary (a more correct spelling would be stationery, but we stuck with stationary, pun intended) are based on drawings that seemingly make no sense. Classic greeting cards are based upon a two-part sentence, or joke; the opening and the closing. The beauty of STATionary is that although they follow the traditional structure, they are devoid of context and are in essence, nonsensical.

For the "Baby Party" card, the drawings were taken from two different sketches related to babies, and baby paraphernalia.
